Year 5 spent 2018 learning everything there is to know about water. As documented in early posts, they visited Orange City Council’s various sites to learn about cutting edge water management in the region and then put this into practice in the Senior School Science laboratories.
The year culminated in a project-based learning activity where the three Year 5 classes had to design a reticulated water system that included a water catchment operation, filtration column and solar purifier for the plastic bottle greenhouse contracted by Year 5 in 2017.
Each class had a seperate goal and they had to communicate which each other to ensure they design would flow from capture, through filtration, to purification and finally irrigation. Whilst the project was not totally completed during the day, the students made a fantastic effort in designing a system that will work. Hopefully we get some rain to see if their processing has been successful. Head on down to the prep school to see their posters explaining the various processes and to check out their craftsmanship.
